First airing in 1997 as a series of movies called "Tales from a Parallel Universe", the unconventional Sci-Fi  experiment called Lexx showed viewers that there was more to Science Fiction television than Star Trek.  In its four season run, Lexx treated the viewer to stunning visual effects and off-beat, sometimes risqué story arcs.  It was a show that never took itself too seriously, and reminded us that above all, that we should strive to be able to laugh at ourselves.
